My name is Lorna Gray, and I serve as the Braille Literacy Specialist at My Will Advocacy Inc. I was born with glaucoma and became totally blind at the age of twelve. I received my primary education at the Salvation Army School for the Blind, in Jamaica, West Indies, where I first learned Braille and soon became proficient enough to help teach other students. Those early experiences shaped my passion for literacy, independence, and empowering others.
I later earned my bachelor’s degree in social work from Florida International University (FIU), gaining valuable experience supporting seniors and individuals with developmental disabilities. I am also an active member of the National Federation of the Blind, a movement that fuels my dedication to advocacy and equal access for the blind community.
In my role, I teach Braille reading and writing, daily living skills, and confidence-building techniques that help individuals move toward independent, fulfilling lives. My goal is to show every student that if I can overcome challenges and thrive, they can too.
Scripture Inspiration:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
